A majestic 73 from Captain Marvel, Michael Wood, aided the seconds to what was, ultimately, a comfortable victory against Basingstoke V.
Bowling first Woody gave the the opportunity for youth to shine and he was not disappointed, with three wicket hauls for Perry King and Nathan Rabley with Tom Barnes also picking up a pair.
Alex Brundle, a veteran at 24, joined in the party with a sharp run-out and a wicket to see Basingstoke off for a total of 132. The Basingstoke innings also saw a first bowl for Ollie Rabley (Nathan’s dad) though sadly, he did what dads do do best when called in to action and pulled his hamstring.
Michael Wood: He’s Great
Chasing the total Steve Savage went for 1 but leaving it up to Dan Beckell (27) and Alex Brundle (25) to support Woody’s fine and ultimately match winning innings.
The unbeaten run continues and despite enforced changes, the second’s ship looks steady and well on course for an unprecedented double promotion.
