Michael “Woody” Wood’s two’s recovered from the hammer blow of Bob “Lethy” Lethaby’s recent retirement from Saturday cricket with an excellent win at Odiham yesterday.
Batting first, Odiham looked solid at 60-1, but the Oaks galvanised themselves, dug in and started rattling through the batting order.
Pick of the bowlers was Tom “Jones” Barnes who picked up three wickets whilst Rob “He’s better than Steve” Gerrard (2), Michael “Woody” Wood (2) and Alex “Let’s Get Ready To” Brundle picked up the others.
Also of note was a run-out for “Fred” Perry King and a first ever catch in league cricket for the irrepressible Dean “Deano, Mr Cricket” James.
Deano James: Took a Catch
Chasing the target, Dan “Becky” Beckall returned to form with a steady 31 whilst supported by Michael “Woody” Wood who made 18.
Alex “Let’s get Ready To” Brundle chipped in with 13 leaving it down to Steve “Bownie, Bowner, Chinese” Bown to hold up an end as Brad “Commie-Bearnie” Compton-Bearne smashed a quick-fire 25 that he spent the night claiming was 27, to see the Oaks home to yet another victory.
The Oaks now top the table as the only team with 100% record and already look like champions…surely only doing a Devon Loch can stop them now!
