The seconds had a comfortable victory versus Hungerford II’s on Saturday, paving the way forward to what will now surely be the league title.
Hungerford fielded just 8 players and batted first, with only the late entrance of one of their first team batsmen and some Laurel & Hardy fielding, allowing them past the 50, then the 100 mark.
Wickets were spread around both Van Dyk’s, Rob Gerrard, Michael Wood and Alex Brundle, but more noteworthy were the dropped catches that started badly, got worse and eventually became farcical.
Nightmare: Gordon Scott contemplates his dropped catch
Alex Brudle, Lance Van Dyk and veteran Gordon Scott, should all have a rightful place in the dropped catches hall of shame as Hungerford, somehow, scrambled to 104 with some players who had by their own admission, literally dragged off the street.
It was not to matter in reality as Micheal Wood (68) and Steve Savage, chipped away at the target with ease, leaving Callum Van Dyk and Dan Beckell to finish things off.
Another Good win for the Oaks against an out of sorts opposition and with just three to play, the title is within sight.
