Two’s Cruise Past Overton 2s to Ramp up Promotion Charge

Match Summary

The Second XI cruised past their out-of-sorts counterparts, Overton 2s, on Saturday. Stand-in skipper George Lethaby won the toss and chose to field, with his bowling line-up facing little resistance.

Dave Bowers was the main beneficiary, picking up a first-ever five-wicket haul, with Sharan Hugar (2) and Harry Tucknott (3) mopping up a lacklustre Overton innings that ended 64 all out. It was a bad day for the O’s, who appeared bereft of belief that they could test Oakley. A couple of wins are needed, as they are better than that.

The Chase

The chase was interrupted by the early loss of Nellie Warner, but the in-form Kris Tucknott and Tim Hartgill eased The Oaks to victory without further ado. It was all a bit of a non-event and quite bizarre that maximum points were missed out on by losing one wicket chasing a small total. Never mind.

Still, the 2s are right in the promotion mix, ready and waiting for any slip-ups from the teams above them. Tougher tests await, but there is no reason they can’t be up there on the last weekend of the season.
