The Oakley Sunday string were on the wrong end of a battering by local rivals Farleigh Wallop on Sunday.
batting first the Oaks couldn’t even reach one hundred and the numbers in the score-book looked pretty much binary except for a fine 50 by Michael Wood.
Farleigh’s chase of the target was pretty much straight-forward though a few batsmen did fall, with the King boys picking up wickets and Bob Lethaby taking a salmon like catch to remove Andy Woodgate as well as the scalp of Rob Diamond with glorious full toss/long hop that was scythed into his stumps.
There was also some vicious banter aimed at Darrel Dimond, the Oakley Saturday skipper, but he stoically refused to let his Saturday team-mates get him out.
Such was the manner of the victory, Farleigh invited the Oaks for a 16/16 match which resulted in Steve Bown hitting an amazing century off just 12 overs that included no fewer than 11 sixes, allowing Oakley to cruise to a consolation win with plenty to spare.
The highlight of the afternoon was the King brothers both getting a good bat and bowl and Brad Compton-Bearne bringing along his lunch and a Craig Bellamy autobiography as his source of spectator entertainment.
The lowlight was a fearsome blow to the head and fortunately helmet, of Jack Brundle, which had everyone very concerned as he behaved normally for at least an hour afterwards.
