It was a great day for Oakley cricket club today as they thrashed Littleton by 9 wickets at Oakley Park.
In a good spirited game played in warm sunshine, Oakley reduced Littleton to 170 in their 42 overs thanks to a battling performance in the field that was epitomised by 4 wickets from the excellent Tom Holbrook.
Chasing a respectable if not formidable total, Steve Savage and Scott Bright set about the task with gusto, taking apart the opposition bowling attack with aggression and sensible defence when required.
Scott Bright completes his 50 at Oakley Park
Scotty, a humble but class act, was eventually out for an excellent 84, taking his tally to 184 in three games whilst Steve, approaching his 62nd birthday, rolled back the years with an excellent unbeaten 74.
Oakley have been through turbulent times in recent months (you will all know what I am talking about) but the players who have have stuck with the club and backed Clive Welsman as the captain, are reaping the rewards that come with loyalty.
As the chairman of the club, it really was an honour to share a few beers and a barbecue with such a decent and honest bunch of guys afterwards.
