The Sunday string mate it a memorable weekend for the Oaks completing a hat-trick of wins with a resounding victory over Bounty Social at Oakley Park.
Batting first, the Oaks struggled against a decent attack, losing Dan Sumner early and Jack Brundle when the score was on just 15.
Alex Brundle and the wonderfully turgid Bob Lethaby saw off the attack with Bob waiting patiently for a bad ball…Sadly, when it duly arrived, courtesy of a full toss, Bob hoiked across the line and was out LBW…What a prick!
Billy Turner came to the crease and batted patiently as Alex Brundle opened up and started increasing the run rate with a flurry of sixes and fours.
Pete Holcroft went for a classy duck and when Alex was caught on 47 it was up to George Lethaby to take up the senior role, batting aggressively for a quick-fire 33.
It was left to Tom Barnes and Dan Jones to get the score up to somewhere near 150 and Dan in particular, batted well to aid the score to an almost respectable 143.
Defending the total, the Oaks got off to good start, with Dan Sumner removing one opener whilst the other was caught off the bowling of Tom Barnes at mid-on courtesy of a mesmeric flying catch by Bob Lethaby.
Once again, chairman courageous had turned a game on it’s head with a cricket brain that so often has him labelled by his lesser peers as Mr Cricket.
This caused a dramatic collapse for Bounty, with George Lethaby, Dan Jones, a further two for Dan Sumner plus a brilliant run out by Jack Brundle and another hilarious one gifted by Bounty, leaving them all out for a paltry 69.
So another fine day for the Oaks in what is shaping up to be a season to remember as all the young lads have developed a winning habit.
Time, once again, to say those all to familiar words.
Up the Oaks!
