Another poor day with the bat left the first 11 battling against the odds once again, with an excellent performance in the field not enough to avoid a fourth defeat of the season.
Batting first, the Oaks lost Dan Sumner early and when Gerry Dique went for 16, a familiar capitulation of the middle-order ensued. Only 30, from Tommy Holbrook (Oakley’s most consistent player this season) and an excellent 9th wicket 50 partnership from Jimmy Bright (27) and George Lethaby (24) allowed Oakley to pass the 100 mark.
50 Partnership: Jimmy Bright and George Lethaby
Once again, Oakley were excellent in the field and with the ball in hand, and Tommy Holbrook and Jimmy Bright took the game the Hurstborne Priors which was a catalyst for collapse of wickets.
Wickets went to Tommy Holbrook (3) Clive Welsman (3) and when Jimmy Bright took two in an over Oakley looked like they might nick it with 9 wickets down.
However, it wasn’t to be and Oakley were left to rue another day when they didn’t dig in and bat the overs out on weather affected pitch.
Up the Oaks!
