The first team made it three wins on the spin on Saturday with a comfortable win over lowly Andover III’s at a sunny and warm Oakley Park yesterday.
Bowling first the Oaks were a little off key with Tommy Holbrook carrying an injury and Jimmy Bright a little bit out of sorts and getting frustrated, much to the delight of Tommy who laughed at Jimmy mercilessly.
Gerry Dique however, found some rhythm and despite getting clumped for a six by a young lady, he picked up an impressive five for to get the Oaks heading in the right direction with Steve Bown and George Lethaby also picking up a couple apiece as Andover were out for 164.
Chasing the target, Dan Sumner and Gerry Dique once again put on 50 before Gerry went for 25, handing the job over to rapidly improving Chris Morris to take the Oaks home.
When Dan went for 42 courtesy of a “Dan must nearly be on 50” wicket, Tommy Holbrook came to the crease and showed his class with a quick-fire 33 as the Oaks pushed on towards the target.
Dan Sumner top scored with 42
Clive Welsman went quickly but at least he contributed in some way, offering players and supporters the loudest expletive of the season so far with a high pitched “F**K” that shook the timbers of the club-house and scared the living daylights out of Tommy Holbrook who proceeded to check his whites for dubious looking brown stains.
The job was finished off by Jimmy Bright and the excellent Chris Morris who hit a mature 39 unbeaten, leaving the players in a celebratory mood as they listened to Gordon Scott’s vast array of jokes from his forthcoming book, ‘Scotty’s 101 Corset Busters’ the follow up to his previous best seller ‘It Was Going Down Leg’.
Clive, after a bad day where he was a perhaps bit too harsh on himself, could take no more, exiting the building, somewhat ironically, with a bag of rubbish.
Did I mention that Gerry got hit for a six by a young lady?
Up the Oaks!
