The Oaks enjoyed another double weekend as the sun shone once again, allowing the One’s to move into the top half of the table whilst the second team maintained their pursuit of St Mary’s at the top of RNE 2.
Brad Rips Through Old Basing II’s
A fine display of quick bowling by Brad Compton-Bearne ripped the heart out of the Old Basing attack as the First XI enjoyed a comprehensive victory on a sunny Saturday.
Bowling first Brad wasted no time in getting amongst the wickets, reducing Old Basing to 17- 3 whilst ably assisted by James Bright at the other end.
Further wickets for Clive Welsman, Dan Sumner, Dan Jones and Tom Barnes (2) reduced OB to just over 100 allowing a situation where the Oaks could bat with freedom.
A 50 partnership between Clive Welsman and Dan Summer set the Oaks on their way and another from DJ (26) and an unbeaten Michael Wood (27) took the Oaks to the brink of victory before Dan was out and the job was completed by Chris Morris.
Two’s Make it 8 in the Row!
The Two’s completed an 8th win on the spin at a sunny Oakley Park on Saturday.
Batting first the Oaks were wobbling a little after losing Jack Brundle (1) and Mike Askem (15) but a partnership of 127 by Steve Savage and George Lethaby wrested back control.
George (71) and Steve (51) put on a match winning partnership.
When George (71) and Steve (51) eventually departed, there was a bit of a collapse but Mike Tiley stayed firm, hitting an unbeaten 37 to see the Oaks towards a hefty target of 237.
This allowed George to mix up his bowling line up and wickets were shared throughout the team with Mike Askem (3) Jeff King (2) Alex Ogden (2) Brett King (1) and Noah Collis (1) all in on the action as Liphook were skittled for 98.
So maximum points for both teams in a great day all round for the boys.
Up the Oaks!
