The Oakley Sunday 11 were victorious over Bounty Social in a thrilling encounter at at the Mays Bounty today.
Batting first, the Oaks got off to a poor start losing Tommy Holbrook and Dan Sumner early, before a partnership of 127 between James Bright and Julian Worthington put them s back on track.
Julian went for 54 and James, in excellent nick, eventually went for 77, allowing enough time for a Bob and Ben show that added another 30+ to the total.
It was another marvellous effort by Chairman Bob and his 17 in three overs was just another example of the burgeoning talent coming from within this man who exudes Bothamesque class as a genuine all-rounder.
Defending 194, Oakley started well with Tommy Holbrook bowling some tight stuff and an early James Bright wicket courtesy of a flying catch from Darren Turner, however, the Bounty number 2 and 3 batsmen soon started wresting away the control as the run rate lessened.
However, Dan Sumner captains a spirited side on Sundays and 2 wickets for Julian Worthington and another for ‘King of Spin’ Bob Lethaby ,wrestled back a semblance of parity.
As the game drew to a conclusion, it was James Bright with a wicket maiden and Dan Sumner removing another that set the the game up for youngster, Tom Barnes, to bowl the final over with Bounty needing ten to win.
Tom rose to the biggest challenge that he has faced in men’s cricket so far by reducing the Bounty batsmen to eight from the over, resulting in a dramatic Oaks victory by just one run.
