A cold and cloudy Bounty Ground was the setting for the first round of the Cyril Thompson Cup last night, with the Oaks cruising through to round two in an uninspiring encounter with Rotherwick, going through the motions without any alarm.
On top from the start, Jimmy Bright, Clive Welsman and Tom Holbrook were amongst the wickets and three run-outs halted Rotherwick compiling a total to make a game of it as they reached just 75.
Dull Day, Dull Game: Rotherwick offered little resistance in an uninspiring cup tie
Clive Welsman and Dan Sumner put on a partnership of 40 odd before Brad Compton-Bearne provided a bit of light entertainment with a flurry of fours and sixes to put the watching public out of their misery and end the game.
On an evening where the weather was more like Greenland than Hampshire, it was quite fitting that the game was as equally dull.
Up the Oaks!
