Oakley Enjoy a Sumner Day

A makeshift Oakley second string cruised to victory away at Herriard III’s today with a convincing 8 wicket victory.

Bowling first, Oakley, despite some comical missed catches, soon took control, with spinner Dan Sumner (4) and Lance Van Dyke (3) enjoying the share of the wickets that tumbled.

The other wickets went to captain marvel, Michael Wood, and the emerging and audacious talent that is Bob Lethaby, courtesy of a reverse quicker ball that swung wildly before sending off stump cartwheeling towards the pavillion; it will be forever known as “That Ball” such was its devilish nature.

Oakley cruised to victory at Herriard

Chasing a total of 102 former Colts star, Steve Savage, made 30 and Dan Sumner, not happy with 4 wickets, produced a match winning 37. Michael Wood then came into finish the job, hitting a flurry of blistering singles and a huge six to finish the job 23 not out.

A special mention for some great catches by Paul Andrews, Michael Wood (a bit OTT that one) and Peter Holcroft, who took two, the second, a marvellous effort where he ran in like a gazelle ( a pregnant one mind) and took a diving catch, before doing the local farmer a huge favour by ploughing the field with his front teeth.

Fines went to Bob (50p, dropped catch) Alex Brundle (50p, dropped catch) and Jack Brundle (£15,000 for multitude of sins).

Unbeaten still, and top of league, well done to all those who made the effort to get us a full team out!

MOM: Dan Sumner
