Oakley Edge Out Dummer in T20

The first ever Ron Ferguson trophy was claimed by Oakley on a warm evening at Oakley Park last night.

Batting first, Brad Compton-Bearne went death or glory from ball one and amassed 50 in just seven overs before retiring.

At the other end Paddy Saines (25) went quietly about his business before a minor middle order collapse halted the Oaks progress.

However, an excellent partnership between Darrell Dimond (34 not-out) and George Lethaby (28 not-out) saw Oakley reach a tough target of 168.

Chasing the target, Alex Stuart and Mark Barden ramped up the scoring after a slow start and for a few periods the target looked achievable and after Alex retired after an excellent 50, Andrew Ferguson had a real go, bludgeoning sixes and fours all over the ground before getting done attempting to pull one that stayed low.

An entertaining late flurry by Graham Brown was not enough to put further pressure on the Oaks who ran out winners by 20 overs in a great spirited game.

The subsequent retirement to the bar and the healthy spending on burgers, raffle tickets and booze, ensured a healthy night of takings that were approaching the £500.00 mark.

Well done to all involved, especially Suzanne Barden (catering) Andrew Ferguson (sound system) Billy Turner (PA man) Peter Holcroft (barman)  and Jeremy Stuart (umpire).

Up the Oaks!
