You just can’t keep cricket out of the headlines this week. First, it was those dastardly Australians cheating our holier than thou English heroes. Now, it’s Oakley Cricket Club announcing a new Colts Director.
That’s right, after months of contract negotiations as well as fending off interest from no other clubs, Oakley CC are delighted to announce that ‘one of our own’, Kris Tucknott, has decided to become the new Colts Director.
Kris comes onto the committee to provide the link from colts to adult cricket and to represent all the coaches with their ongoing requirements. It is a section of the club that Dan and Natalie Beckell took to a new level where we could encourage good coaches to come to Oakley and develop decent cricketers for the future. Kris aims to continue that progress.
For those of you who don’t know Kris, he has been at the club for a few years now, both as a player and a coach. He played a decent standard of cricket in Sussex for many years and has two boys Harry and Ed, who both play for the Oaks colts. Harry is also in the Hampshire Pathway squad and is a First XI regular at 15 years old.
Most of us around the senior set-up have got to know Kris as he regularly plays in the Third XI as higher order batsman. He is also a regular contributor to club fund raising events and social functions. In my opinion, Kris possesses all the attributes of good committee representative at a village cricket club. These attributes include, knowledge, commitment, good ideas, doing things without a lust for plaudits. and the occasional need for dark humour/sarcasm.
All in all, I think Kris is an excellent fit for what is an important role as we continue to develop the link between colts and adult cricket at Oakley Cricket Club. I am sure that everyone who knows Kris will agree and wish him good luck and support. It’s a good time for the Colts section.
On we travel…
