The mother all derbies between Oakley and Dummer, turned out to be the auntie’s second cousin’s baby daughter of all derbies as the Oaks put a poor Dummer performance to the sword.
With some fine bowling and exceptional fielding, the Oaks reduced Dummer to 99 off their allocated overs and after losing Dan Sumner for a first ball golden duck, they made short short work of making the total, with Mark Potter (25 ret) Alex Brundle (25 ret) and George Lethaby (21) all unbeaten.
It was left to the father and son combination of Bob & George Lethaby to see out the game, with Bob finishing, somewhat heroically, on 0 not out off 3 deliveries.
Ultimately, the game was won in the field with the excellent bowling of George, Dan and in particular, Alex, backed up by top drawer fielding.
As usual, the evening ended with a few raucous beers and good hearted banter all round…Aaaah, local cricket, it really is hard to surpass it for competitiveness thrown in with all-round piss taking and good humour.
Up the Oaks…
