An Oakley team featuring five players still pissed from the night before, suffered defeat in the annual Sunday friendly against Crondall.
Oakley bowled first with Alex Brundle and George Lethaby, featuring a accumulative total of 3 hours sleep, labouring in the hot afternoon sunshine but amazingly, wickets did start to fall.
Alex Brundle picked up a couple as did spin craftsman Bob Lethaby, but it was the legend Michael Wood who was pick of the bunch with three wickets coming off a plethora of alcohol fuelled deliveries.
Crondall got to 175 courtesy of some hefty blows and Oakley faced the task of batting with most of team standing accused of being drunk in charge of a cricket bat.
Michael Wood, holding back the vomit, opened with a rather grey looking Dan Sumner and both were beset with a host of early LBW shouts as they swung and missed at virtually every delivery.
Dan didn’t last long before Gordon Scott came to the crease, looking in great nick before he went for a golden duck. Alex Gray came in at four and lasted longer than most before Matt Vickers joined the fun with what was in comparison to the rest, a moderate hangover.
Matt was joined by Bob Lethaby who hung around for a classy 13 before being replaced by Alex Brundle who got a drink ravaged duck.
George Lethaby joined Matt who went on to compile an excellent 42 and as George plundered a couple of hefty sixes it looked game on, but Matt eventually went.
George was joined by Paul Sumner who hung around as George hit out but Paul went for 5 leaving George somewhat unlucky to finish unbeaten on 25, leaving the Oaks 30 odd short of the target.
All in all an ugly afternoon of village cricket.
Up the Oaks!
