Captain Clive Settles it For Oaks

The Oaks ran out winners in a tight, low scoring and often ill tempered game game at Oakley Park on Saturday.

Aided by excellent fielding that included two fine catches for Sammy Holbrook, the Oaks were in fine form with the ball with pick of the bowlers being James Bright, who was a persistent thorn in he side of the Basingstoke attack during a spell of 4-12.

There were also wickets for Tom Holbrook (1) Neil Robinson (1) and the excellent Dan Sumner (3) as the Oaks dismissed Basingstoke cheaply, or so it seemed.

Going into bat, Oakley were soon in trouble as Adam Robinson went for 20 and was followed quickly by Scott Bright and Neil Robinson as Julian Worthington held things together at the end.

However, captain, Clive Welsman, showed his experience, steadying the ship with Julian in a stand that was slowly taking the game away from Basingstoke, with the only alarm being when Clive was dubiously given out but reprieved by Derek Dicker, who showed great sportsmanship by recalling him to the crease.

Clive survived some near the mark sledging to compile 46 before getting caught in the deep and Julian was unlucky not to get a 50, departing on 44, but Dan Sumner and Tom Holbrook kept their cool to see the Oaks home to a fourth consecutive victory.

Up the Oaks!
