Oakley Cricket Club is on the lookout for new players across our Colts, Ladies, and Men’s sections as we prepare for an exciting year ahead. Whether you can bowl like Broad, bat like Brook, or simply want to learn how not to swing a bat like it’s a fly swatter, there’s a place for you here.
Cricket for Everyone
We offer cricket for every age and skill level:
•All Stars Cricket for youngsters starting their journey (expect plenty of energy and enthusiasm—sometimes in the wrong direction).
•Colts Teams from Under 9s to Under 15s, where juniors learn the ropes while parents learn the fine art of supportive cheering.
•Ladies’ Team, taking on their first hard ball season—further proof that “playing like a girl” now means “she’s going to skittle you out.”
•Men’s Saturday Teams competing in Hampshire County Leagues (Divisions 3, 5, and 6), plus a more laid-back Sunday team where occasional skill and enjoyment happily coexist (sometimes).
Facilities Worth Bragging About
We’ve invested heavily in the club over the past 10 years, ensuring players can focus on cricket, not excuses. Our improvements include:
•A shiny electronic scoreboard that never gets the score wrong (unlike some of us).
•Sight screens and covers to ‘get the game on’.
•A clubhouse extension and bar—perfect for post-match analysis and the occasional exaggerated tale of the day’s heroics and calamities.
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re installing brand-new double net lanes, so there’s no excuse for not turning up to practice (unless you’re the second team captain and it’s spare ribs at Brewdog night).
The One Key Requirement
At Oakley, we welcome players of all abilities—whether you’re a seasoned pro, a complete novice, or a parent conned into joining because your child plays in the Under 9s. The only thing we ask is a willingness to chip in, volunteer, and help the club grow on and off the pitch. Cricket, after all, is a team game—and we’re not just talking about on the pitch.
