The under 13’s finally got their season underway at Odiham this evening after the first game of the season was postponed.
Caden, in his first game as captain, lost the toss, and we were asked to bowl. A superb non-decision by Caden as he and fellow opening bowler George, tore through the Odiham top order, all clean bowled. The Odiham skipper, however, was made of resolute stuff and, despite losing 2 more players (a fine run out by ‘keeper Tom and a good catch by Caden off Lucas), set about crafting a very good partnership with the lower order before retiring. A further breakthrough was a while in coming but a lovely little spell of bowling by Harry was rewarded with a wicket, followed by a special moment for Miles who also picked up a wicket in his first 13’s game.
Odiham finished on 101-7 from their 20 overs.
Oakley replied with some quick scoring, but Odiham have some good bowlers and we were quickly pegged back, leaving the game firmly in the balance. As the evening drew in, and the threat of rain grew, Ed T and Finley K were the heroes seeing the result home. Ed applying the muscle to Fin’s studious defense. A towering 6 and smacked 4 from Ed sealed the deal with 2 overs left.
Special mention to Seth for the shot of the match, a glorious straight 6, and a big welcome to new member Alex who was made to feel at home I’m sure.
It was good to finally get the season underway.
