The third eleven have a new skipper, with Jeff Triner (tall Jeff) the new man charged with getting a full side out every week. Jeff takes over from Kris Tucknott, who remains at the club as a player and Colts coach.
Jeff’s aim is to liaise with the colts section and bring through young players and prepare them for adult cricket by playing with several experienced senior members. The third team is there to ensure all senior paid up members get cricket, as well as providing a vital colts/seniors conduit as we strive for a ‘one club’ environment.
Third team captaincy can be difficult, especially in holiday season, but the fact we played every game last summer gives Jeff a great base to work with. Josh Carpenter, Noah Beckell and Harry Tucknott have all progressed from the Third XI in recent years to represent the First and Second XI’s, so it is great system that clearly works.
Jeff will also be required to inform Jack Brundle and James Bayliss of our players of the future to create a smooth upward transition. It is a role that Jeff, having played club cricket at many levels, is already looking forward to and it is certain to benefit the club as a whole.
Good luck Jeff.
