Well done to everyone who turned up to tonight’s session, it was another great turn out and was once again well supported by Under 15’s looking to step up to Men’s cricket.
On the other end of the spectrum, there was heroes welcome for the evergreen Steve Savage, who has pledged to spend his 66th year rolling back the years for George’s second XI.
Special thanks to Mark Potter who laid on an excellent session. Potts has asked me to publish his report from tonight’s session, which, courtesy of the wonderful ‘Copy and Paste’ tool, I can do with relative simplicity.
Please do read this, particularly if you wish to improve and make an impact this season.
Key points from tonight
Head – head up and level, keep it still, watch the ball to the bat
Hands – soft, get to the line of the ball and then hit through the line of the ball
Feet – get them moving, forward is the way (esp playing on our wicket), press, step to line of ball and get a solid base to play the shot
Backing up at the bowler’s end – make sure you do, less distance to run, less pressure on the bat
Running and communicating – YES, NO WAIT! Communication is key when running- leg/offside calling, behind/in front of square – who calls and when!
Turning – don’t turn blind – when running to either end, turn and face your chest to the fielder where the ball is, check if the ball is down, in hand or coming back in, then make a decision to run
What went well
Maximum participation from all involved
Good energy levels
Lots of activity done
Some good coaching
Chance for everyone to bat and bowl
Some people got to bat x2
10 minute sessions – high intensity – good to motivate batsmen and focus bowlers
Things that need to be worked on
Fitness – work hard in 10 minute intervals
People getting organised and bowling – batter still stood around waiting at times
Try and set the nets to bowling types – slow/spin and seam/swing
Allow batters to settle in a little more, get used to facing the hard ball again
Bowlers need to pitch it up and keep the ball full
Overall a really good, productive session, hopefully enjoyed by all with some benefit. This must be kept up and gained on each week, so that we go into the season, ahead of the 8 ball, not behind it!
Cheers all,
Potts
