Blokes Off to Winning Start!

The Blokes from the Oaks got off to a winning start tonight with a comfortable victory versus an out of sorts Sevens Sixes (Dummer).

The Blokes lost Jack Brundle early but that merely set the stage for Brad Compton-Bearne to launch an obligatory assault on the Sevens bowling with some crunching sixes.

When Brad retired, George Rutt came in and got stumped and was followed to the crease by Bob Lethaby, who was struggling to readjust to indoor cricket during a patchy innings.

James Wiltshire came in after Dan retired but was soon out, allowing Brad to come back in with Bob and crunch a couple more sixes before getting caught on 43, much to the relief of the Dummer fielders.

Bob redeemed himself with an impressive six in the last over with the excellent Dan Jones remaining unbeaten on 42 in a Blokes total of 125.

The Blokes ran out deserved winners as Sevens Sixes struggled to get going

With DJ and Brad bowling really tight stuff Sevens were in trouble from the start, with a lack of runs coupled with tumbling wickets and run-outs.

It was great to see James Wiltshire, who had an injury ravaged season, bowl superbly in a stingy 3 over spell and Bob and Jack didn’t let the side down when a couple of overs were needed to be used up; the wides column looked healthy.

A run-out in the last over insured maximum points for the Blokes and a comfortable win in a game where the Sevens will feel disappointed with a slightly lacklustre response to a par target.

The first few games of the indoor season are always a difficult adjustment and on this occasion, the Blokes were that bit quicker out of the blocks than the Sevens.

Up the Oaks!
