The Sunday XI put on a good show to defeat the Tabbard Pilgrims in a warm spirited encounter in sparkling August sunshine at Oakley Park today.
Batting first, the Oaks got off to a decent start with Alex Brundle once again in good form with a solid knock of 42 that was backed up by the rest of the team in an innings that did not feature one duck on the scorecard; a unique achievement.
The next highest scorers after Alex were Nathan Rabley with a fine 25 and Bob Lethaby who narrowly avoided his testicles being rearranged by a full toss during a somewhat traumatic innings of 14 which will feature a peppering of bruising tomorrow morning.
The Oaks managed to finish on 166, a competitive total on a pitch that carried an air of uncertainty and despite a friendly warning of how the pitch might play, the Tabbards refused to take heed and soon began collapsing.
The Oaks were comfortable winners at a sun kissed Oakley Park
This resulted in a collapse where the Tabbards highest scorer was their number 9 as the King brothers, Tom Barnes and Will Bentley made hay as the sun shone.
It also allowed a couple of overs from the irrepressible Isaac Reeves, who took his opportunity by taking the first two wickets of his Oakley career to add to his season high of 10 with the bat.
Tabbards were eventually all-out for a meagre 96, allowing Oakley the rare pleasure of an unbeaten weekend when the British summer was at its sublime best.
Special thanks to the King family for providing a marvellous chocolate cake and along with Shannon and George, helping to clear the clubhouse after last night, making it welcoming for when the opposition arrived.
Up the Oaks!
