Seconds Down Shots With a King Pair!

The Second XI had a fine win at a cloudy and muggy Aldershot on Saturday, defending a big score of 270 on a small pitch.

Batting first, the Oaks got off to a decent start but did lose Dan Beckell in the fifth over for 9. This allowed Chris Morris to come to the crease and build a partnership with the ever stoic, Steve Savage , who was busily compiling yet another 50.

Mozzer started accelerating after Steve departed and a superb 100+ partnership with Alex Brundle in the last 10 overs, took the game away from Aldershot who were visibly wilting under the pressure caused by some fantastic running between the wickets.

Alex made 49 and Mozzer a fantastic 96 to make the Oaks firm favourites.

Top Knock: 96 For Mozzer

Defending the total would never be easy without regulars Brad Compton-Bearne and Dan Jones but captain, George Lethaby, led  by example with perhaps his best opening spell of the season, keeping the Aldershot openers at bay and increasing the run-rate.

The King brothers, Perry and Brett, then took over, both bowling superbly well under pressure as the batsman began opening their shoulders and started a genuine chase at the target.

Despite taking ‘a bit of tap’ they both created chances and the three wickets apiece they both took was justified reward for their efforts. George and Alex both also took a wicket apiece as the Shots faded and two fine run-outs helped wrap thing ups.

With a depleted bowling line-up, it was great to see the younger players step up and take wickets in what was a good all-round team effort and a big step to staying in County North 2 for the first time in the club’s history.
