Oh Look, Oaks Beat Hook!

The Thursday Oaks provided the shock of the indoor season last night with a comprehensive victory over a talented young Hook side at Dummer Cricket Centre.

Bowling first, the Oaks were inspired by the irrepressible enthusiasm of Mark “Harry” Potter whose presence in the field and with ball in hand pushed the Hook boys into their shells.

Brad Compton-Bearne, Dan Jones and Jimmy Bright were also inspired, all bowling well and a great fielding performance was exemplified by a fantastic combination catch with Dan Jones deflecting the ball into the grateful hands of Jimmy Bright.

However, Hook are good young side and they still showed enough ability to muster up a competitive total of 138, with some good running between the wickets, a decent total.

However, Dan Jones and Jimmy Bright picked the right time to hit form, with a 100 partnership that was enhanced by some unusually wayward bowling by Hook, who were losing discipline as the target came within sight.

Both Jimmy and Dan retired unbeaten leaving it to Jack Brundle and Mark Potter to ease the Oaks to their target, ending the contest halfway through the 11th Over of the match, courtesy of the power play.

To reach 138 without the loss of a wicket was a fine achievement given the opposition and showed that with the right application in the field, the Oaks are capable of beating anyone.

Up the Oaks!
