In an emotionally charged and tearful text message exchange with Woody last night, I reluctantly accepted his decision to stand down as second team captain after two years leading his men with all the gusto of a war veteran being the first man out of the trenches.
Woody has had to deal with some crucial decisions in his time as captain, such as whether to bowl himself or me (he always chose himself) in the latter stages of games and the intense pressure, both dealing with his players and the media (he was in he Gazette once) meant he had to stand-down.
In an attempt to change his mind, I sent Woody this song (below) but he blocked me on my 17th attempt and called the police. After being cautioned and told to stay at least five miles from his house, I decided I had better accept his decision.
In all seriousness, I would like to thank Woody, he is a great guy and has become a great friend over the last few years, he epitomises the club and I wish him luck as he tries to force himself back in to first team cricket where he belongs (don’t laugh).
We have a number of people interested in the position and those who are generally keen, please drop me a line at bob@cbsrecruit.co.uk
Cheers Woody
