Big Brad Goes Mad!

An extraordinary day at Oakley Park on Saturday saw Brad Compton-Bearne smash the Oakley record books with an incredible innings of utter carnage during the victory versus Sparsholt.

Here are Brad’s stats:

180 not-out – Highest score recorded by an Oakley player in any format

21 sixes – Most amount of sixes by any player at Oakley in one game

100 off 34 Deliveries – Quickest Oakley century

101 – Highest ever Oakley 9th wicket partnership (with his step-brother Charlie Bearne).

335 for 8 – Highest ever Oakley score.

Onslaught: Brad Comton Bearne:

Oakley have had some big hitters at the club in recent years, such as Adam Robinson, Tommy Holbrook and Bob Lethaby, but sustained and violent hitting like this has never been witnessed before at Oakley Park.

This is Brad’s first ever season playing league cricket and whilst he still has a lot to learn about the game, his potential, at just 21, is there for all to see, and when he gets his eye in, his batting is nearly as hard to control as his  extraordinary Tonic Bar dance moves.

Gordon Scott, another huge hitter who has been at the club since it was established in 1849, described one hit (that landed in the pair of oak trees in the farmers field)  as the longest six- hit he had ever seen, and Gordy knows a thing or two about a good length.

For good measure, Brad also took 4 wickets to take all the plaudits away from all the other poor buggers who actually played quite well too.

However, Saturday was all about Brad, and as the football commentator, Andy Gray, used to say (before he got hilariously sacked for overt sexism).

“Tek a boo son, tek a boo!”

Up the Oaks!
