The Sunday Oaks finished off the indoor league season with both sides winning in style at Dummer Cricket Centre last night.
First up, George and Alex’s side ruined the 100 per cent record of Hook with a fine all round performance leading to a comfortable 5 wicket victory with 2 overs to spare.
It was a fine bowling and fielding display that put the Oaks in control, reducing Hook to just 104 off their allocated overs before Clive Welsman and Dan Sumner made light work of chasing the target in an easy victory.
Gordon Scott’s eclectic team of veterans and youth then polished off lowly Ashford Hill in a comfortable win, with mercurial talent, Bob Lethaby (32) starring with a display of batting that had a bumper crowd watching on with admiration and disbelief in equal measure.
Defending a total of 127 the young lads all bowled extremely well and Ashford Hill never looked like being in the game.
It was a fitting end to the season for both teams and whilst George, Dan, Will and Alex continue to develop into fine local players, it was even more encouraging to see the development of the generation behind them, featuring both Rowleys, Tom Barnes and Dan Jones.
All these lads have been a credit to the club and Gordon, Darrell and Lance should be applauded for assisting with their development in to players who will comfortably represent the club at adult level in 2015.
