Hungover Sunday Boys Overcome Odiham!

A team featuring a plethora of of players who had slept on the floor after a World Cup party at club on Saturday, ran out eventual winners against Odiham at a cloudy Oakley Park on Sunday.

Odiham batted first and looked like they meant business with their opener smashing a second six off the second ball of the over, but after getting off to a flyer before he was dismissed by a short plugger by Callum Van Dyke.

As Odiham started taking the game away from the Oaks, two wickets in two balls from a rather pale looking George Lethaby, changed the course of the match and Oakley started to dominate, with a further wicket apiece for George and Callum backed up by others for Dan Sumner and Alex Brundle and an Odiham run-out courtesy of a pinged hamstring.

Odiham finished on 134.

Oakley opened with Steve Savage and Darrell Dimond, who both batted calmly before Steve went for 24, sportingly giving himself out run-out.

Darrell, who went on to make 44, was joined by Dan Sumner, who, suffering from a heavy head, tried to carve one into cow corner only to be clean bowled. Matt Vickers followed in similar fashion before George Lethaby smacked a couple of fours in a quick-fire 13.

It was left to Julian Worthington and chairman Bob Lethaby (14 not out) to finish the job, Bob hitting the winning runs with the finest shot of his illustrious career, a shot that, disgracefully, received absolutely no applause from his team-mates who were fast asleep on the various benches and chairs.

Up the Oaks!
