Sunday Boys off to a Flying Start

The Sunday 11 got off to a cracking start to the season with a comfortable win over Titchborne at a sunny Oakley Park today.

Bowling first, George Lethaby tore into the Titchborne attack, dismantling the top order with 4 wickets in 4 overs for four just runs whilst well supported well by Julian Worthington, who was unfortunate to finish his spell without the reward of a wicket.

This blistering start allowed captain Dan Sumner, to introduce two débutante colts, Tom Barnes and Billy Turner into the game and they both bowled really well, with Tom in particular, very unlucky not to take wickets in a really good five over spell.

Further wickets came for Callum Van Dyk (2) Alex Brundle and Dan Sumner as Titchborne were eventually all out for 104.

Chasing the total, Dan Sumner departed early, but Brett Sanders, with some lusty blows, and Julian Worthington, moved the score along quickly before departing on 33 and 35 respectively.

This left a few minor cameos from George, Callum, and Jack Brundle, with Alex Brundle completing the job in style with a couple towering sixes.

All in all, a good day for the club that included a solid performance and the arrival of two new youngsters who performed really well as team players, both when bowling and in the field.

Finally, special thanks to Petua Sumner who organised the teas for today’s game.
