The First XI had a relatively straightforward victory v Ashford Hill in the first round of games in The Vector Cup yesterday. Hill batted first and the Oaks started nibbling away, taking wickets and keeping the run rate down.
However the Hill middle order pulled the game round with good knocks for Perera, Pedley and Ballard aiding them to a respectable 195. Oaks wickets went to Hennessey, Cheyney, Sumner and Compton-Bearne in a what skipper, Dan Sumner, thought was slightly patchy but adequate fielding display.
Chasing the total was light work for The Oaks, with a ton from Hennessey and 82 not out from Dan Sumner doing the job, with two late wickets from Hill the reward for a tough afternoon in the field. A bit annoying for Clive’s average though.
So, a straightforward day where the long batting lie up was not required and victoey was straightforward. Tougher games await!
Up the Oaks!!!
